My Reflection On My First Year At University.

So after finishing my first year at Uni I thought i’d write a post on it.

Not only is Uni one of the most if not the most nerve-racking life experiences I have gone through it has also been one of the best. I know i’m in first year so my view on uni might be slightly optimistic compared to the next 2 years. However, it hasn’t been easy I have had 4 presentations, 6 essays and 2 exams from very contrasting modules. Despite this I would reassure a lot of people that (first year anyway) has been less stressful than A levels – i’m not sure if thats because I am now more prepared or the work load is easier or even if my environment impacted this.

Even when I was 15 I didn’t plan on doing A levels let alone Uni but I believe it has been one of the best decisions i’ve ever made. I understand the financial side can be daunting but I personally think it is quiet a smart scheme and you only pay if you reep the benefits of uni (which despite what some people say it will aid your career) – well thats how I see it anyway.

I live away from home and surprisingly the biggest benefit for me this year has not necessarily been educational (so far) but, maturity – how to be independent and responsible, it really has helped me to grow up (and appreciate all my parents do for me).

Of course it isn’t for everyone but only you will know if it is or not. If it is don’t let anything hold you back and do it, it will be the best decision you make and be some of the best years of your life. Even if you don’t get the grades, don’t get the course or accommodation you want (like me) don’t let it stop you after all, everything happens for a reason.

Interiors: Take a look into my University room

DSC03498

So after making the biggest move of my life it was essential to me that I loved my new room as i’ve since raised as a student you spend A LOT of time in there.

I love what I would call a fresh/minimalist kind of interior. This is how i’d describe my room but of course with gold/copper accents (basic I know).

For me it was important in a Uni room to have pictures (which I actually need more of) and memories to remember those who are important to you in your life and maybe to curb the home sickness. I have this frame which holds a speech my mum wrote for me at my 18th Birthday.

I have a slight obsession with this cactus trio. I got it from smith & goat  you can choose what succulents / cactus you want and choose a handmade ceramic pot – I love it ! Although i’m kind of hoping they won’t be dead when I go back in Feb.

And OF COURSE I needed another clothes rail. I’m very lucky with my Uni room and the size of it which is actually bigger than my actual bedroom at home in Essex.

Although it isn’t finished i’m going to add a mirror and these faux palm leaves from ikea in a vase. However, i’m very happy with it.

I hope this kind of post was interesting I know I loved seeing this on Luke Catleugh’s blog. I love interiors so I thought use might too. I’m hopefully moving soon so I will do a before and after of my bedroom at home if you liked this.

Thanks again everyone (And an extremely belated happy new year),

Kane 🙂
